a new israeli invasion looms over gaza or is the palestinian enclaves battered with artillery and air strikes with allegations that white phosphorus is being used against civilians. as israel say's this is just the beginning of the country's appeal for an end to the airstrikes and the rocket attacks. bad news building just hours after a twenty four hour pan-european strike brought over twenty countries to a standstill the figures suggest the eurozone is back in recession. and beijing ushers in the new top officials which will lead the country for the next decade and in ten minutes from now we look at how the world might be changed by china's it merging economic might.
11:01 am
live from a new center here in moscow this is r.t. with international news and comment twenty four hours a day the israeli military is converging on guards or as it continues to pummel the palestinians from sea and land the operation pillars of defense is on the verge of turning into a new invasion as tel aviv says it's prepared to go all the way under the pretext of self-defense three israelis and at least fifteen palestinians including children and a pregnant woman have already been killed. and has the latest from the region. some unconfirmed reports from israeli media that tanks are moving south towards the border with gaza we've trying to confirm that with the israeli defense forces they will not confirm that at the moment it seems that that may be happening which would indicate the situation moving towards
11:02 am
a ground invasion of gaza as all of that goes on we've also got the airstrikes continuing they have continued throughout the night and into today i spoke a little while ago to a source inside gaza as i was on the phone to him we heard explosions outside his apartment block and he was saying that the casualties are mounting and that the israelis are using a lot of drones flying over gaza but are dropping small missiles to try and target what they call the terrorist infrastructure there to try and kill hamas operatives there earlier today the funeral of jaggery the head of hamas is a military wing was held. people went so that no. staff went to that funeral for fear that they may be targeted in airstrikes there on the other side houses busy launching rockets into southern israel today three israelis
11:03 am
were killed when a rocket hit their apartment block in the south of israel so a very tense situation on both sides of the border down there there's various voices from various parts of the international community right here in the region we've got a palestinian liberation organization spokes person saying that this is a deliberate attempt by israel to try and ruin. the bid for statehood we've also got enough good of the palestinian president say he's cut short a visit to europe over this and he. has said more than once that he's called for a stop to this israeli aggression egypt has been very vocal it's withdrawn its ambassador to israel called for a u.n. security council meeting on this subject. egyptian president mohamed mursi has called this unacceptable and it said there are reports he's trying to get the u.s.
11:04 am
to pressure israel into stopping this attack the u.s. has said for its part that israel has the right to defend itself and russia are also commenting on this saying that israel's attack is a disproportionate use of force against gaza so all of this international furor. over this attack that may may result in a ground invasion those are the fears at the moment the latest from the southern border is the head of israel's southern command saying that this is just the beginning. american human rights activist is in gaza and told us there's evidence to suggest israeli forces are committing war crimes by targeting civilians with a controversial weapon. late last night i witnessed what i'm pretty sure was the use of white phosphorus and in civilian neighborhood. i
11:05 am
spoke as well this morning of the director of al shiva hospital who indicated to me that he thought some of the enjoy as he had seen passing through their emergency room were consistent with the use of white phosphorus and he also spoke of the fact that the mounting casualties coring into hospitals throughout the gaza strip are aggravated by the lack of essential medicines and medical supplies caused by israel's ongoing see it's not simply a matter of massive deaths and injuries horrific as that would be in and of itself there is also a lack of the basic necessities needed to treat them so it's a disaster here a manmade disaster in more ways than one. when only my colleague spoke to an israeli official who hailed the only going operation in gaza as a success despite the rising number of civilian casualties this is been so far one of the most surgical pinpoint military operations in military history i think again
11:06 am
you will see that the civilian militant casualty ratio will show up in israel to have unfortunately killed civilians but full fuel then than any other comparable military. action but you have a pinpoint operation you call this one of the most precise and exact and pinpoint military operations that israel's unknown in recent history and that can allow for what you might consider collateral damage the killing of children when you when you present it and you talk about civilians it's always said as all the civilian these are to civilian to being killed just today the three israelis who were killed but all of the live in policy and who were killed seven are confirmed militants choose to use it like you know you are you worried though that possibly you're just giving right. the anti israeli attitudes among palestinians let's let's have a listen to this quickly as the hamas leader that we spoke to just a bit earlier place down by. the assassination of this great leader. really
11:07 am
confirms that we are still in the heart of resistance with the israeli that we are designers generally knows nothing look the language of killing and the blood of our battle with the enemy is an open bottle to me god willing and obey this battle will end with palestine and jerusalem liberated being what we should wait for our actions would not occur and. we've seen their actions a situation which no sovereign anywhere in the world could accept what would you do were just one missile to land in central moscow where we talk about our missiles and let's the scarify here we're talking about mortars rockets that are being attracted over some some i say that a mortar rocket from the palestinian militants compared to your. health fire inside why the missiles from your super high tech fighter jets oh well that's quite a big difference between fireworks and bombs but the truth of the matter is that we have a situation where just today three israeli civilians were killed call the mortars call the missiles or did civilians we have a situation where we are in the recent past some thirty percent of these raby
11:08 am
children in southern israel diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder so israel was heavily criticized by a part of the world community i agree with you there i remind you and i point out that that was four years ago is the lowest civilian to militant casualty rates in history twenty nine percent of those killed were civilians and i'm not belittling the death of any civilians but far lower than any other military campaign in the last century i think that we will see something similar to start we're hoping to achieve a number of things first and foremost to significantly degrade the command and control operational abilities of. the middle east analyst nathan thrall believes the israeli government could be staging the conflict with gaza to show its on top of its game. has been a great deal of pressure on the israeli government which has looked very impotent during this escalation and this is not new a year ago in august two thousand and eleven kadima the opposition party was
11:09 am
screaming at the top of its loans that that likud was impotent and that that could demon knew how to handle this problem looking at a region in which israeli public feels imperilled they see mortars coming from from syria they worry about the conflict from syria spreading they worry about rockets from hezbollah and this was one thing that the israeli government could do to show that it is capable of protecting its citizens as as they desire israelis continue to to say that they are ready to to occupy gaza if need be and it is certainly a possibility. to stay with r.t. for the latest on the crisis in gaza you can also follow our live updates on twitter and also on our web site r.t. dot com. a smooth change at the top in china beijing has confirmed this change of leadership

had to pay for the average three room apartment expelling the poor from london seems a bit fishy to me so instead of say regulating prices are god forbid using the money from the welfare cuts to create jobs so people can earn a living for themselves rather than rely on handouts london has decided to make itself some official get to. what is to call a place where everyone from a certain economic classes forcibly shove to although this may sound like some sort of help from the government it seems to me like a means to get rid of the poor rather than trying to make the poor less poor but that's just my opinion. to speak to language. programs and documentaries in arabic it's cool here i'm. reporting from the world talks about six of them. r.p. interview intriguing story for you. troy

a real economic success story we've seen it gain membership to the world trade organization it's now a very sort of prominent member of that particular organization we've seen its g.d.p. quadruple. in the last ten years however there are some problems with that economic success story we have seen enormous environmental damage caused by that runaway growth we've also seen huge gap opening up between rich and poor china has a million u.s. dollar millionaires but also one hundred fifty million people here living on less than a dollar a day and that is an issue that the incoming government knows that it needs to tackle. financial experts francis london who's based in hong kong believes that with china's economic and military rise it's the us that will suffer. new leadership showed china very you. can continue it. so. continue to grow economically china we would

do is to continue to strengthen its military to be serene to reach a point china can can achieve parity with america if that is their case i don't think america can for all its weight around the world with out poland. now you can't you can do anything it wants but if china becomes. a power parity with the u.s. and things change. i love a lifestyle is something britain's royal family takes for granted with palaces castles and sprawling country estates at their disposal you might think they pay the people that look after them a generous wage but a recent job suggests otherwise earlier my colleague research she spoke to artist laura smith about why working for burger king could be better than working for the

queen. this is really unfortunate timing this week in the u.k. it's living wage week. position politicians and campaign is working towards giving encouraging employers to pay what they're calling a living wage higher than the minimum wage and london is elsewhere say eight pounds fifty five in london seven pounds forty five outside lunches place the minimum wage which is six pounds nineteen now i think in any other week this job would have gone pretty much on notice but some eagle eyed journalists bosses it is an advert for a part time cleaner windsor castle which is paying a living wage of lower middle. to work in clean. the. prestigious job to have surely there would be a job that would pay a bit of the pennies over the minimum wage. you think so you think so but what should be stressed that this is not illegal because it is paying about the bedroom

wage but it's a little bit stingy it's not generous and it's not what we would somebody if somebody is working i mean. according to forbes in the past year or so the queen is worth at least three hundred million pounds can she cough up a couple of more quid. is a tricky one really i mean i speak to people outside buckingham palace some people who go into work some people do it. and opinions are really kind of divided about this because of course we want the queen to be generous and we expect actually we expect people like the queen to sesame. to employers but we also want her to be frugal because all of this stuff all of this money that she's paying out is coming from taxpayers do we want her to be frugal at the expense of low paid staff like cleaners i think the artist probably no i think she's in trying to do that she can do it but obviously you get what you pay for it. difficult. they should match whatever policy should be. as far as general salaries you can see
11:23 am
we've got some figures to show you we're talking about salaries since two thousand and six they've risen by about eleven percent across the board which doesn't sound too bad none of this sounds too bad so some example social workers they got seventeen percent more in their wage packet teaches eleven percent chartered accountants have done less well it just one percent management consultants are down by a around six percent but the most important thing to remember is that none of these things represent real terms rise in wages in order to beat inflation in your wage cap you'd have had to have seen it go up by nineteen percent so this is a job that does not pay well. from the true terms of a mosque to miami beach americans are joining together to call for a united states hundreds of thousands of online pro independence petitions are being filed in all fifty states. plus russia.

and of course the afghan government has long complained about the conduct of u.s. forces operations on the ground here in afghanistan some of the issues that they are not happy with are for example the controversial u.s. special forces strikes night raids that end up killing many civilians also at the issue of sovereignty here is a top i mean the afghan government insists that american soldiers who are accused of committing crimes here in afghanistan are tried within this country under afghanistan's legal system american troops say no they want their men to be tried in the united states and of course this issue has taken on rather. more urgency in light of the massacre that took place in march for an american soldier. was accused of going essentially on a shooting spree killing sixteen civilians in the kandahar province issues like this really do resonate with the public it's a very visual example of sort of misdeeds by the u.s. forces and while of course the illegal murder of civilians is certainly something

that should be tried under afghan law according to the officials here this also comes amid a climate of mistrust by afghans after certain cultural missteps for example the controversial video that showed u.s. marines urinating on the corpses of afghans as well as of course the notorious cases of color on the burning sort of indicating the climate of social insensitivity that that unfortunately exists on the ground here with u.s. troops and what we've seen is instances of for example taliban plans ending up in the ranks of afghan soldiers who end up turning their guns against the american trainers as well as other afghans who may or may not be happy with the conduct of certain soldiers and end up turned their guns on the americans as a result of that and so what this really reflects perhaps a policy that hasn't necessarily played out very well. more news twenty five minutes from now in the meantime the only international t.v. who can get away with everything because i don't want you to mexico as
